DISTRIBUTION:

Nudaurelia macrops flies in Africa:
Angola and
Tanzania, confirmed by Andreas Riekert in southwest Tanzania. The Natural History Museum indicates
(Malawi): Nyassa Gebiet (area around lake Nyasa); Muzuzu 1375m (MB). There may also be populations in
Zambia and
the Democratic Republic of the Congo: Sakania (NV) (confirmed by Thierry Bouyer).

Thierry Bouyer indicates benguelensis Obertheur, 1921, is a synonym of macrops.

I believe the most recent nomenclature change places this species in the Montanaurelia genus.

"Sakania is a town in Haut-Katanga District, in the far south of the Democratic Republic of Congo, near the border with Zambia. It is located at an elevation of 1278m asl, therefore it has a cool climate." Wikipedia

Nudaurelia macrops larvae feed on Brachystegia venosa and Pinus.

ECLOSION, SCENTING AND MATING:

Both sexes are active at night. Males come in to lights around midnight when females are scenting.

EGGS, LARVAE AND PUPAE:

Larvae also feed on the Eucalyptus imported along the eastern coast of Africa. (David Bygott)
