DISTRIBUTION:

Nudaurelia bamendana (wingspan: males: 107-122mm; female: 108mm) flies in Cameroon, Africa. Specimens (a single female and eight males) have been taken in the forests in Bafut Nguemba (south 16km, east 3km of Bamenda in North West Province) in October at altitudes of 2000m.

In the female, the forewings are slightly falcate with a nearly straight outer margin. The pm line is black, inwardly lined with grey-violet. The submarginal area and the apex show a suffusion of grey-rose-lilac scales.

The clear, small cell spot is semicircular, convex toward the apex.

Males show great variety in yellowish to reddish-brown ground colour and seem to have less contrast with grey-violet-rose-lilac scaling.

I will do further update when I have more time to translate from French to English.

FLIGHT TIMES AND PREFERRED FOOD PLANTS:

The Nudaurelia bamendana moth flies in the months of October, and possibly at other times.

Larvae feed on Maesa lanceolata.

ECLOSION, SCENTING AND MATING:

Eclosion is from underground pupae.

Both sexes fly at night with the males coming in to lights around midnight, the scenting time of the females.

EGGS, LARVAE AND PUPAE:

Mature larvae pupate in subterranean chambers.

Larval Food Plants

It is hoped that this alphabetical listing followed by the common name of the foodplant will prove useful. The list is not exhaustive. Experimenting with closely related foodplants is worthwhile.
