DISTRIBUTION:

Orthogonioptilum bernaudi (wingspan: males: 62-68mm; females: probably larger) flies in central and southwestern and southern Cameroon (Bidou, Mbalmayo, Ebogo, Dokoa, Fakele) with O. v. adamaouenis and O. kahli, at elevations from sea level to 600m.

On the forewing, the origins of the postmedian and antemedial lines on the costa are each marked by a dark spot, but otherwise these lines are very faint as is the median line. The median area is darker (brown) in the upper half and brighter/lighter in the lower half. Diffuse and profuse grey-violet scaling (banding) surrounds the scalloped grey am and pm lines. The basal area is light orange. The "spots" in the cell are very small and are outlined wth grey or orange in contrast to the brown of this region.

The hindwing lines are also very faint, again surrounded by diffuse and profuse grey-violet scaling on a pale orange-brown ground colour. Cell spots are very small, surrounded by grey orange.

Orthogonioptilum bernaudi male, BOLD.

It is hoped that this alphabetical listing followed by the common name of the foodplant will prove useful. The list is not exhaustive. Experimenting with closely related foodplants is worthwhile.

The pronunciation of scientific names is troublesome for many. The "suggestion" at the top of the page is merely a suggestion.

There are many collectors from different countries whose intonations and accents would be different.

The genus name Orthogonioptilum refers to the nearly right angle at the anal angle of the forewing.

The species name 'bernaudi' is honourific for Bernaud.
