DISTRIBUTION:

Orthogonioptilum falcatissimum (wingspan: males: 64-76mm; females: 85-94mm) inhabits forest zones of
Ivory Coast: (Mount Tonkui, near Man), (Adiopodoumé (October), Barrage d'Ayamé (January), Mont Tonkoui (March) SCI).
and Ghana.

The forewing is very falcate with a pointed apex and a very concave outer margin.

There are three to four points of light on the forewing, but only two to three on the hindwing.

The forewing patterning is very contrasting with pinkish grey in the upper cell area and just outside the scalloped pm line. There are orangey scales surrounding the points of light. The apical region and the subterminal and terminal regions are very dark, almost black.

I have very little information about many of the African species. Distribution/range, flight times, images, etc., would be greatly appreciated.

Send info and/or pictures to oehlkew@islandtelecom.com. Every little bit helps!

FLIGHT TIMES AND PREFERRED FOOD PLANTS:

This moth flies in March and possibly again in the fall at elevations of 1150m.

Orthogonioptilum falcatissimum larval hosts are unknown.

Larval Food Plants

It is hoped that this alphabetical listing followed by the common name of the foodplant will prove useful. The list is not exhaustive. Experimenting with closely related foodplants is worthwhile.
