Orthogonioptilum neglectum HT male, Lokomo, southeastern Cameroon,
November 10, 1990, on my home computer only.
TAXONOMY:Superfamily: Bombycoidea Latreille, 1802 |
"Moon River" |
This species belongs to the paveci group, and it is very similar to O. paveci reported from Lobaye, Central African Republic.
Both species have a pale grey-brown ground colour, uniform on body and all wings, with some darker brown mottling in the median and pm areas. O. neglectum seems to have more and slightly darker brown mottlings compared to O. paveci.
Aside from geographic location, DNA barcoding might be necessary to distinguish between the two.

The pronunciation of scientific names is troublesome for many. The "suggestion" at the top of the page is merely a suggestion.
There are many collectors from different countries whose intonations and accents would be different.
The species name neglectum is indicative of the many years this species was over-looked in Darge's collection. DNA barcoding reveals it as distinct,
but in the paveci group.
