Antheraea oculea from Flagstaff, Arizona (Coconino County),

Joel Szymczyk (August 5, 2003) writes,
"Friday night (August 1) at Harshaw, we saw TEN species of saturniids:
Automeris iris, Automeris patagoniensis,
Automeris cecrops pamina,
Antheraea oculea,
Anisota oslari,
Sphingicampa hubbardi,
Sphingicampa montana,
Eacles oslari,.
Citheronia splendens,
Hyalophora columbia gloveri,
and 15(!) species of Sphingiidae. The big trophy was a
Proserpinus terlooi. Actually a 'small' trophy!
"Saturday night at Box Canyon, at my two light rigs, I saw SEVENTEEN
Hyalophora columbia gloveri, all males. The sheets were
"cluttered" up with Eacles and Citheronia, and we had
recorded eleven species of sphingiid before 2130. It was really
kickin' there. all the gloveri came in between 0200 and 0430."
Russell also collected Hemileuca electra clio larvae 2-3 instar near Payson, (Gila County) Arizona, 3/6/04.
