DISTRIBUTION:

The Antheraea frithi pedunculata moth (wingspan: males: 124-134-142RBmm; females: 150mm) flies in southern and eastern Thailand: Surat Thani and Mukdahan.

I suspect the nominate subspecies as well as the more southerly frithi pedunculata are very similar in appearance. A. f. frithi probably occurs more often in collections as it is from areas more heavily collected. Possibly ?? pedunculata males are more heavily marked with brownish lines as opposed to the redder lines of nominate frithi.

FLIGHT TIMES AND PREFERRED FOOD PLANTS:

Specimens have been taken in Thailand in March and August. There may be additional flights.

ECLOSION, SCENTING AND MATING:

Females extend a scent gland from the tip of their abdomens to "call" the males. Males use their antennae to hone in on the airbourne pheromone.

EGGS, LARVAE, COCOONS AND PUPAE:

Larvae of Antheraea frithi pedunculata resemble others of the genus Antheraea.

Based on location, the female from Chiang Mai is more likely Antheraea frithi frithi, but I am not certain.

Larval Food Plants

It is hoped that this alphabetical listing followed by the common name of the foodplant will prove useful. The list is not exhaustive. Experimenting with closely related foodplants is worthwhile.
