DISTRIBUTION:

Actias ningpoana ninghainana (wingspan: males: 119mm; females: mm // Mfwl: 65-76; Ffwl: 80-90mm) flies in
China: Hainan: Wuzhi Shan Mountains; 1500m.

This subspecies is on average slightly larger than the nominate subspecies.

FLIGHT TIMES AND PREFERRED FOOD PLANTS:

Actias ningpoana ninghainana probably broods continuously and the preferred larval foodplant is probably Rhododendron. This far specimens have been observed on the wing in February and April. There are probably additional flight months.

Actias ningpoana ninghainana female, Hainan, China,
on my home computer only.

ECLOSION, SCENTING AND MATING:

Females extend a scent gland from the posterior tip of the abdomen to call in night-flying males.

EGGS, LARVAE, COCOONS AND PUPAE:

Larval Food Plants

It is hoped that this alphabetical listing followed by the common name of the foodplant will prove useful. The list is not exhaustive. Experimenting with closely related foodplants is worthwhile.
