DISTRIBUTION:

Actias heterogyna (wingspan: males: 90-100mm; females: 104-117mm) flies in Hong Kong and in southern China. It was at one time reported in Thailand: Chaiyaphum and Phetchaboon, but recent extensive collecting indicates it probably is no longer present.

Ron Brechlin, 2009, indicates he could find no difference between A. sinensis and A. sinensis heterogyna.

FLIGHT TIMES AND PREFERRED FOOD PLANTS:

Actias sinensis heterogyna larvae feed on Liquidambar formosana and Liquidambar styraciflua. Reports from Thailand are for March and July flights.

ECLOSION, SCENTING AND MATING:

Females extend a scent gland from the posterior tip of the abdomen to call in night-flying males.

EGGS, LARVAE, COCOONS AND PUPAE:

Larval Food Plants

It is hoped that this alphabetical listing followed by the common name of the foodplant will prove useful. The list is not exhaustive. Experimenting with closely related foodplants is worthwhile.
