DISTRIBUTION:

Actias sjoeqvisti (wingspan: 90-100mm) flies in
Russia: Siberia.

Martin Finney indicates this moth was formerly treated as a subspecies of Actias artemis. Female Actias sjoeqvisti, however, do not have the truncated tails of Actias artemis subspecies.

FLIGHT TIMES AND PREFERRED FOOD PLANTS:

Martin Finney is rearing them on alder. Alan Marson has had good success with Liquidambar.

I have drawn a line between those larval images sent to me by Alan Marson and those sent by Jurgen Vanhoudt. Larvae appear to be sufficiently different in instars 3-5 to warrant investigation. Perhaps this is normal variation, possibly influenced by foodplant. Perhaps there are two closely related species depicted. Bill Oehlke
