DISTRIBUTION:

Cricula frederkingi (wingspan: males: 73mm; females: 80mm) flies in
Vietnam: Thua Thien-Hue, Kreis A. Luoi, Gemeinde A. Rong, Dorf Khe Cha Lenh, 809 m., 16º05.374'N, 107º27.559'E.

Thua Thien-Hue is a province in the North Central Coast of Vietnam, approximately in the center of the country. It borders Quang Tri Province to the north and Da Nang City to the south, Laos to the west and the South China Sea to the east.

FLIGHT TIMES AND PREFERRED FOOD PLANTS:

The holotype male was taken August 12-13, 2004, by collectors S. Loffler, P. Spona & T. Frederking.

Larvae will probably accept fruit tree foliage: apple, cherry, pear.

ECLOSION, SCENTING AND MATING:

Females extend a scent gland from the tip of the abdomen to call in the night-flying males.

Males use well-developed antennae to track the airbourne pheromone.

EGGS, LARVAE, COCOONS AND PUPAE:

The species name is honourific for one of the collectors, T. Frederking.
