DISTRIBUTION:
The Loepa cynopsis moth
(wingspan 85-100mm) flies in Indonesia:
Jawa (Java): West Jawa Province, East Jawa Province and
Bali.
(Etymology: the authors validated an unpublished manuscript name of uncertain meaning of the late J. L. TOXOPEUS, Java.)
The following images were originally identified by me as L. cynopsis. Due to larger, more oblong ocelli and proximity of lines to ocelli,
I now think they may be the very recently described Loepa hayatiae from Jawa Barat in West Jawa. I also not slightly less produced apex and slightly less
concave outer margin. However, they were reported as larger than would be expected for L. hayatiae.

FLIGHT TIMES AND PREFERRED FOOD PLANTS:
I suspect this species has multiple broods. Cissus, grape and Virginia
creeper would likely prove to be suitable hosts.
ECLOSION, SCENTING AND MATING:
Females call at night. Males fly into the wind and track the pheromone plume with their
sophisticated antennae.

Larval Food Plants
It is hoped that this alphabetical listing followed by the common name of the foodplant will prove useful. The list is
not exhaustive. Experimenting with closely related foodplants is worthwhile.
