DISTRIBUTION:

Salassa htayaungi (forewing length: males: 80-86-89mm; females: ??mm) flies in
Myanmar:
Kachin State, Kanphant Village, 1642m, May 29, 2006;
Kachin State, Phemaw village, 1705 m, May 31, 2006;
Kachin State, Zi Yar Dam, 65 km NW Putao, 1250 m, May 21, 1998; and in
China: Yunnan: Mount Gaoligong, near border with Kachin, Myanmar.

The male dorsal ground colour is a bright orange brown. The underside is maroon with a white suffusion in the basal and medium areas, and bright greenish gray-brown in the post medium area.

The apex is slightly produced to a point.

This species is larger than S. megastica (71-76mm) from northern India.

The strongly convex am line is inwardly lined with white. The medium sized transparent, greenish area of the forewing is roughly equal in size to the corresponding hindwing ocellus. The hindwing cell is bright orange.

FLIGHT TIMES AND PREFERRED FOOD PLANTS:

Moths are on the wing in late May-June, and possibly in other months.

The female and larval hosts remain unknown.

ECLOSION, SCENTING AND MATING:

EGGS, LARVAE, COCOONS AND PUPAE:

Larvae spin loose cocoons near the ground amongst loose debris.
