DISTRIBUTION:

Solus medogiana (wingspan: males: 58mm; females: // forewing length: males: 34-35; females: ) flies in
western China: Tibet/Xizang: Medok/Medok, near the border with Assam in northeastern India.

This species seems to be slightly larger (forewin length) than Solus drepanoides whose males have a forewing length of 30-33mm. However, the wingspan is greater in drepanoides because the extended forewing apices project outward in drepanoides while in medogiana they have a more upward track.

The hindwing ocelli tend to be larger in medogiana than in drepanoides. Drepanoides has a slightly more westerly range in northeastern India and Bhutan.

FLIGHT TIMES AND PREFERRED FOOD PLANTS:

Specimens have been taken in July and August, at elevations near 2250m.

Larval hosts are unknown.

ECLOSION, SCENTING AND MATING:

Females extend a scent gland from the tip of their abdomens to "call" the males. Males use their antennae to hone in on the airbourne pheromone.

EGGS, LARVAE, COCOONS AND PUPAE:

Larval Food Plants

It is hoped that this alphabetical listing followed by the common name of the foodplant will prove useful. The list is not exhaustive. Experimenting with closely related foodplants is worthwhile.
