DISTRIBUTION:

Syntherata parvoantennata (wingspan: males: 103mm; females: 113mm // forewing length: males: 42-58mm; females: 51-68mm) flies in
Indonesia: Irian Jaya, Nabire, 12 km west of Samabusa, Lagari, at elevations from 50m to 1700m. It has also been taken in Enarotali; Wamena; Epomani; Ngat Biep; Mabilabol; Cendrawasih; Arfak Mountains. It is quite a variable species.

FLIGHT TIMES AND PREFERRED FOOD PLANTS:

Specimens were collected December 6-8, 1993, by Brechlin & Cerny. Specimens have also been taken in January, April-May-June, August. There are probably additional flight months.

ECLOSION, SCENTING AND MATING:

Females extend a scent gland from the tip of their abdomens to "call" the males. Males use their antennae to hone in on the airbourne pheromone.

EGGS, LARVAE, COCOONS AND PUPAE:

White, ovate eggs are deposited in rows of 8-12 on hostplant foliage.

Larvae pupate in stiff oval cocoons spun up among food-plant or nearby vegetation.

The species name is based on relatively small size of antennae which are from 9-10mm long.
