Vu Van Lien

Vu van Lien has recently provided me with many images from Vietnam where he travels and collects extensively.

Vu Van Lien is a good source of specimens, and may also be able to provide eggs. Contact him at vulien@gmail.com.

See the Vietnam section where many of his electronic images are now posted, including some images by other WLSS members who obtained specimens from Vu Van Lien. I will update the Vietnam map (new posting) with locations as they become available from Vu and others.

The report of Actias chapae in April from Lam Dong (1600m) is a surprise as it places this species south of its previously described range, and the dates suggest a possible ealier brood (previously reported as only having an October-November flight).

Based on a new publication, Nachr.entomol.Ver.Apollo, N.F. 29 (1/2): 71-75 (2008), the specimens from Lam Dong are a newly described subspecies, brezverkhovi.

I believe, over time, Vu wil be able to provide specimens of most, if not all, of the fifty plus species/subspecies I have listed from Vietnam.
