Panama Ceratocampinae Comparison Table I

The descriptions in the right hand columns pertain to males of the Ceratocampinae species of the following genera: Adeloneivaia; Adelowalkeria; Citioica; Othorene; Ptiloscola; known from Panama. The provinces listed for Panama are the ones cited by Lemaire. Many of these moths are also found to the north in Costa Rica and to the south in Columbia so there is probably a presence in most provinces and oher administrative units.

Both genders have a hollowed out area along the outer margin just below the fw apex. The male fw outer margin is diagnostic. FW pmline is broadly pre-apical. Both genders have a prominent black cell marking on the hindwing.

Syssphinx quadrilineata male

Syssphinx quadrilineata female

Males usually have a pair of cell markings, but I suspect there are some specimens devoid of such markings. The pm line is broadly pre-apical, and it turns inward at the costa. Both males and females come in forms with and without speckling.
