It is possible the female from Itanhandu, Minas Gerais, Brazil, is subspecies Eacles imperialis cacicus, but I have gone with E. i. magnifica based on geography. Subsequent arrival of images (below) of the male seem to confirm they are E. i. magnifica based on less falcate forewing and less lilac near the outer margin.

The larva from southeastern Minas Gerais is a subspecies of E. imperialis. It could be E. i. cacicus, but I have gone with E. i. magnifica based on geography. The thoracic and anal scoli also seem more appropriate (length) for magnifica.

In late March, 2013, Larry sends what appear to be third instar larvae, two different colour forms, feeding on same branch at same time.

Identifications are tentative as I (Bill Oehlke) am not sure if these are E. i. magnifica or E. i. cacicus.

Larry valentine has found them on both avacado and guava.
