DISTRIBUTION:

Salassa bhutanensis (forewing length: males: 54-67mm; females: 68-69mm) flies in western and central Bhutan: 2 km E Chendebji at elevation of 2320m; Paro at 2460m; near Dorji Gompa at 2430m.

It is similar to S. royi from Sikkim and Nepal and S. olivacea from W China.

S. bhutanensis is mainly olive green in colour, while S. royi is dark brown.

Naumann, Loffler and Kohll, 2010, have synonymized bhutanensis, Brechlin, 2009, with tibaliva, with tibaliva having precedence. Visit Salassa tibaliva file.

FLIGHT TIMES AND PREFERRED FOOD PLANTS:

There is a late June to early July flight. Moths are possibly on the wing in other months, but more likely just in June-July with a slightly more extended flight season.

ECLOSION, SCENTING AND MATING:

EGGS, LARVAE, COCOONS AND PUPAE:

Larvae are covered with spine-bearing warts and spin loose cocoons near the ground amongst loose debris. Possibly cocoons hang from trees.

Larval Food Plants

It is hoped that this alphabetical listing followed by the common name of the foodplant will prove useful. The list is not exhaustive. Experimenting with closely related foodplants is worthwhile.
