Well, that was a short rest! Hope you all had happy holidays.
Brrrrr is it ever cold here, makes you wonder how the pupae can survive outside.

Ty Clark sent me a very interesting image of a hybrid Citheronia regalis x Citheronia splendens sinaloensis larva. Picture is up in the hybrid section as well as in the photography section.

Jan Hellert sent me a series of "time lapse" images of a cut away Attacus atlas cocoon, revealing the larva in different stages of pupation.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Andreas Riekert sent me a beautiful image of an Imbrasia macrothyris larva, posted to that file.

Martin Jagelka has sent me great images of Pseudobunaea irius female (Kenyia), Caligula jonasi - female, larva (Japan), Saturnia pavonia meridionalis - larva (Macedonia), Saturnia spini - larvae (Turkey). I have uploaded all to respective files.

While doing a search for some butterfly images on the internet, I came across a very nice image of what I consider to be Rhesyntis hippodamia colombiana. I have posted it to that file.

David C Etz ,
drdketz@juno.com
writes "I have about 30 Rothschildia schreiteriana
cocoons that I'd like to sell for $5 each if you know anyone
who'd be interested (the 30 would consist of
10 from each of 3 different pairings).
I would consider trading for other Rothschildia species."
These would be available in U.S. only.

New member Daniel Rojas Lanus has sent me very nice images of Loxolomia serpentina, Arsenura biundulata, Rhescyntis pseudomartii, Titaea tamerlan tamerlan, Adetomeris erythrops and Copiopteryx sonthonnaxi. All have been posted to those respective files.
I also received two images of species not previously depicted on the site, Leucanella aspera patagonica and Ormiscodes schmidtnielseni.
Daniel also sent me a nice image of Sphingid Neogene picta, not previously depicted on Sphingidae site. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Bernhard Wenczel has sent me images of spread specimens of species not previously on the website: Automeris micheneri, Copaxa herbuloti, Cerodirphia zikani, Dirphia horca, Dirphiopsis unicolor and wanderbilti. Images have been uploaded to species accounts.

Extensive work has been done with checklists for Central and South America. Any additions/omissions or corrections would be greatly appreciated. I am especially interested in info for Puerto Rico, the Bahamas, Haiti, Jamaica, Cuba, etc.. Even a single species to add to the data base is helpful.
The checklists have been uploaded.
I am working on the Ceratocampinae now.

Frustrations: I learned that someone calling himself "Brent Witt" was advertising free access to World's Largest Saturniidae Site and was directing people to a search engine (Doggie Pile) that would pull up the site if the user typed in "Great SilkMoth Website".
This necessitated some quick changes to website files and a quick email to the webmaster hosting the pages displaying Brent's emails.
I suspect "Brent" is just a youngster, and doesn't have any idea of the amount of work that goes into the creation and maintenance of such a site.
At any rate, I came up with a temporary solution, and probably by the time this "Mothly Newsletter" is sent out, the site will have a new URL access.
Yes, it does. The site is now at
http://www.s89032563.onlinehome.us/kurthi.htm
Just after dealing with "Brent", I went to burn some cds of both the WLSS and the special North American CD for members. My CD burner wasn't working. Hopefully I will find a quick solution to that problem and still be able to get cds out for Christmas. Sorry, didn't find solution in time. I am able to burn the N.A. cd on my youngest son's computer, but it is not working for burns of much more extensive WLSS files. CD burns of WLSS wil probably be done in July.
All this just after wrenching my back (nothing serious) while walking the dog. I guess I just turned the wrong way!
About the same time, I began having problems with my ftp transfer, so, although I have been upgrading many files on my home computer, I have not been uploading them. Hopefuly I will have a solution to that problem soon. That problem is now fixed.

The Caterpillars Too Website (North American Butterflies) is also coming along nicely and will be very useful to many people interested in butterflies and their larvae.

I really enjoy the beauty captured in the many images that have been sent to me and appreciate the sharing that is done among members. I am especially fond of one of the early photos of an Antheraea polyphemus female, taken by friend Danny MacKinnon.
My sister-in-law is a locally "famous" rug hooker and I also have another friend who has a great deal of expertise and experience with rug hooking. Both have given me some pointers and encouragement, and I am in process of hooking a realistic rug of the female polyphemus top of page Antheraea polyphemus
Images are on display (unfinished project), at Saturniidae Rug Hooking

I have also received a small shipment of specimens (mostly for photography) from the Philippines. I have them outside in a cooler now as there seems to be some slight dermestid infestation on a couple of specimens. I should know what I have and condition in a couple of weeks after I soften and spread specimens. Let me know if you are interested in purchasing dead stock of Philippine Saturniidae. I probably will be able to come up with specimens of most of the species that fly in the Philippines.
I expect prices to be in the $5.00-$7.00 range but that still has to be worked out with supplier.
**********COLLECTOR'S CORNER:*********
