December 16, 2016 to January 15, 2017

Hi All,

Merry Christmas and happy holidays to all. May you all have a prosperous new year.

As of December 24, all that I have left for sale on PEI are a small number of S. cynthia

Here are prices for US livestock for WLSS members in US for early winter 2017:
Actias luna sold out
Agapema homogena $8.00 US; about eight left
Antheraea polyphemus sold out
Automeris io sold out
Callosamia promethea sold out
Citheronia regalis sold out
Eacles imperialis sold out
Hyalophora cecropia $6.50 US good number left; more have arrived from South Carolina
Samia cynthia $5.50 about three left

Sphingidae: all sold out

Butterflies: all sold out
There is one shipping and handling fee of $8.00 US for all orders shipped to US destinations through US Post Office, no matter where you live in US or how large your order is.

Please specify species and quantities if you are placing an order and also be sure to include complete shipping address. I can receive payment from United States sources via personal check, international postal or bank money order (cashier's check is okay) in US funds, or Paypal (with Paypal there is a 5% Paypal transaction fee).

Cocoons that get shipped to US destinations will be shipped from Maine, January until supplies run out in very early spring. Some species will probably be sold out before Christmas. Most are. I will be surprised if I have anything left by end of January.

All payments by Paypal should be sent to oehlkew@islandtelecom.com

All payments by personal check should be sent to

Bill Oehlke
Box 476
Montague, PE, C0A 1R0
Canada

Please use $1.25 postage on your payment envelope to me if sending payment from US as that is how much postage is required for letter mail from US to Canada.

Do not send payment until I confirm your order in case I have to ration something in short supply.

An egg pricelist will probably be posted in early March as I have shippers in Florida and Alabama who may have eggs available at that time.

I recently placed an order with Frank Meister for the Entomo-Satsphingia journals that were published in 2016, dealing with Saturniidae. JG9 Heft 01 deals only with Sphingidae so I did not order it.

Here is what Frank has indicated he will be sending me:

JG9 Heft 02 60 Pages with Coloradia, Gamelioides, Actias, Attacus 30 Euro
JG9 Heft 03 212 Pages with 167 new Hylesia Spezies 106 Euro
JG9 Heft 04 92 Pages with Copaxa, Automeris, Winbrechlinia (new Genus), Erythromeris, Pseudautomeris, Cerodirphia 46 Euro
Shipment costs 7 Euro

I will begin processing the new classifications when I receive the journals and will, of course, update all the country checklists, and for the Central and South American countries will also update the checklists for one administrative level below the national level.

I am almost dreading the processing of the new Hylesia. I suspect that identifications will be next to impossible without DNA barcoding analysis.

I contniue to receive many Saturniidae and Sphingidae images from Brazil, and also am receiving some now from Venezuela. It is an exciting but also very busy time for assembling and updating Saturniidae webpages.

Sphingidae Express

I am making slow but steady progress with pictoral checklists and comparison tables for Manduca species in Brazil. Hope to have that done by end of December, and then will focus again on the Saturniidae.

Catocala Capers

Larry Gall writes, "Hi folks, Darryl Willis and I have put together another large crop of Catocala eggs in 2016. Please feel free to request eggs from me by email, for any/all of these. Darryl still has several additional females going of amatrix, marmorata, robinsonii, vidua, and ulalume, but we don’t know yet what their egg production status is.

"I'd like to try to fulfill all shipments by mid December, and hopefully will be able to split the broods up if many of you request the same species. If you have eggs of any species to offer in exchange I'd also like to hear about that, especially any egg clutches of minuta or western species. Please feel free to forward this to any of your colleagues. Best, Larry"

Please note: I reside in Canada at the following address and payment for Saturniidae livestock (eggs, cocoons, pupae) and/or sleeves must be sent to me only at this address:

Bill Oehlke
Box 476
155 Peardon Road
Montague, Prince Edward Island, C0A 1R0
Canada

Postage from USA to Canada is $1.25 (2015 rate) so please use that amount on your envelope with your payment.

If you are in US and order cocoons or pupae from me this fall or winter, you will probably see a New Jersey return address on the shipping box. Do not send payment to the New Jersey address; send it to name and address above please.

This website has been created and is maintained by Bill Oehlke without government or institutional financial assistance. All expenses, ie., text reference support material, webspace rental from Bizland and 1&1, computer repairs/replacements, backups systems, software for image adjustments (Adobe Photoshop; L-View), ftp software, anti-virus protection, scanner, etc. are my own. The one-time-life-time membership fee that is charged at the time of the registration covers most of those expenses.

I very much appreciate all the many images that have been sent to me, or of which I have been granted permission to copy and post from other websites. All images on this site remain the property of respective photographers.

If you would like to contribute to the maintenace of this website by sending a contribution to

Bill Oehlke
Box 476
155 Peardon Road
Montague, Prince Edward Island, C0A1R0
Canada

your donation would be much appreciated and would be used for
1) paying for webspace rental;
2) paying for computer maintenance and software upgrades;
3) purchases of additional text reference material (journals and books) in an effort to stay current with new species;

I also hope to expand the North American Catocala site as well as the Sphingidae of the Americas site, to worldwide sites, and that will require additional funds for reference materials, etc. Both of those site are linked from your WLSS homepage.

If you are mailing a check from USA, please use $1.25 postage (2015 rate). Donations can also be made through Paypal via the button below.

Donations are not required to maintain your standing as a WLSS member, nor do they gain you any preferencial treatment with regard to livestock and/or supplies (sleeves), compared to other WLSS members. All WLSS members get first crack at my annual offerings and get an approximate discount of 10% as compared to non-members.

I do usually ask donors if they have any special requests for information on WLSS, and I try to accomodate when appropriate or within my ability to do so.
