I am sending out this first notice of New Year's Sale to all WLSS members.
I work with a number of suppliers in US who provide the cocoons, pupae and chrysalids that Philip ships for me from Maine to US customers.
Each spring I make requests to suppliers (9 different suppliers this year) regarding the number of items I would like to receive from them of each species. Most times they are successful in providing the requested number, occasionally there are shortages, and sometimes there are surpluses.
Once I have just about sold all the cocoons, etc., that I have requested and received, I like to assist my suppliers with any surpluses that they might have by offering either a Christmas, New Year's or Spring Clearance sale. The suppliers send these surplus items at discounted prices to Maine, and I offer them to you at further discount. Philip still gets paid the same fees for receiving, inspecting, packing and shipping.
At any rate we can still offer the following species at the following sale prices. We will resume shipping after Christmas, probably in January.
Here is what we can still offer at New Year's Sale prices. Let me know, please if you are interested. Do not send payment until I have confirmed your order.
Actias luna at $5.50, reduced to $5.00, reduced to $4.75 if you order ten or more luna
Antheraea polyphemus at $5.50, reduced to $5.00, only about twenty left, but I can get more of these from one supplier
Automeris io at 5.50 reduced to $5.00, only five left, no prospects of getting more
Hyalophora columbia gloveri at $8.00,. reduced to $7.00, only one left with no prospects of getting more
Samia cynthia at $5.50 reduced to %5.00 only about ten left with no prospects of getting more
Cytheronia regalis at $18.00/pair reduced to $16.00/pair, only one pair left, but I can get more of these from one supplier
Smerinthus cerisyi at $5.50 reduced to $4.00/pupa, I can get more from one supplier.
Pterorous glaucus (tiger swallowtails) at $5.50, reduced to $5.00, only about three left, but I can get more of these
Pterourus Troilus (spicebush swallowtails) at $5.50, reduced to $4.50, about fifteen left.
Many of the above items, especially those in very short supply, will probably sell out very quickly. Those which I can get more of will only be brought in if there is sufficient interest. Hence, again, do not send payment until I confirm your order.
Cecropia, promethea, imperialis, modesta, excaecatus, diffinis are completely sold out with no prospects of getting more this winter. There will still be one shipping and handling charge of $11.00 no matter how many items you order.
Thanks for your previous orders, they were much appreciated.
Stay safe. Happy holidays.

In Canada, I still have the following items for sale: Actias luna, Antheraea polyphemus, Callosamia promethea cocoons, all at $5.50 CDN/cocoon; and three Sphingidae species: Pachysphinx modesta 4.00 CDN; Smerinthus cerisyi 3.50 CDN, Sphinx drupiferarum 5.00 CDN; plus shipping.
I have included images of all Sphingidae species still available below.
Smerinthus cerisyi, One-eyed or Cerisy's Sphinx, Jean Haxaire image, $5.00
Larvae are easy to rear of poplar species; available in both Canada and USA.
Pachysphinx modesta in copula, Tami Gingrich image, available in Canada, $5.50 CDN, sold out in USA, still available in Canada.
Sphinx drupiferarum, Wild Cherry Sphinx, Tim Dyson image, available only in Canada this year; $6.00 CDN.
I recently received and posted images of final instar Psilopygida crispula larvae from Lunailands, La Rioja, Argentina. It is the first time mature larvae of this species have been displayed on WLSS. Horacio de la Fuente has provided the images and reports them on Acacia aroma.
Horacio also provides images (now posted) of what I believe is a female Dirphia ursina, also from La Rioja, Argentina. The image previously posted as a female of this species, I am pretty sure, is something else.
I am making slow but steady progress with creating files for recently described species and with updating national checklists and lower level checklists. It is all quite time consuming.
Ryan St. Laurent has sent a pdf file with pictures and information about Adeloneivaia from Brazil. Adeloneivaia apicalis has been removed from synonymy with A. catarina and images of (described for first tme in 2020) females of A. bahiana and A. minuta are now posted.
Iuri Santos provides a very nice image of a male Rothschildia belus from Vitoria de Conquista, Bahia, Brazil. This is the first time I have a report of this species in Bahia.

Sphingidae Express
Horacio de le Fuente also provides images of live Manduca jordani and Manduca bergi from La Rioja, Argentina. It is first time thes two species are depicted live on Sphinigidae of the Americas website, and the jordani specimen is quite striking.
Mauricio Gomes has provided images of what I believe are Eumorpha satellitia licaon from Petropolis, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. I believe the images of the moth were taken imediately after inflation after eclosion. Mauricio found a mature larve December 13, watched it successfully pupate and then eclose December 17.

Catocala Capers
I have some work to do with images submitted by Maurice Bottos and Bill Garthe and William T Hark and Allan Magnus. Hope to get to them soon. (Not there yet). I am struggling with the many new Citheronia species, as well as new submissions and the Adelonaivaia updates.
