July 16, 2006

Hi All,

I am still getting luna and cecropia pairings and there are lots of polyphemus still on the wing, June 23. The latest I have seen wild polyphemus flying on P.E.I. is July 10.

Many thanks to egg subcontractors who have been a great help with egg shipments. Over fifty people have received cecropia eggs this season and I suspect there will still be more orders coming in up to early July. Regalis and Imperialis and Imperialis pini egg orders will be filled in late June - early July.

Unfortunately my trip with Derek Bridgehouse to Sheet Harbour area of Nova Scotia was cancelled due to forecast for rain.

June 24 I had first pairing of Eacles imperialis pini.

Caterpillars Too!

I dug up some suckers off my large French lilac bush and transplanted them to a clearing out back, and one to center of large flight cage. The blooms attract Hemaris thysbe and Papilio canadensis, both of which I want to rear in large numbers this year. We'll see how it goes.

I posted an image of Erynnis lucilius from Taylor County, Wisconsin, to the Taylor County page, courtesy of Joan F. Rickert. Joan has lots of columbine in her garden and I am hoping she can also get images of larvae.
