Hi All,

In just a few days I will be making a trip to the U.S. to visit my parents and sisters (New Jersey and Massachusetts) and some WLSS club members along the way (New Hampshire, Massachusetts, New York, Rhode Island, etc.) and to begin distribution of cocoons.

My father has just informed me that he has received some nice Sphingidae pupae, now available on first-paid-first-served basis while supplies last:

Eumorpha pandorus @ $5.00 U.S./pupa; only small number left
Amphion floridensis @ $4.00/pupa
Specodina abbottii @ $4.00/pupa
Deidama inscripta @ $3.00/pupa; only small number left
Darapsa choerilus (was pholus) at $3.00/pupa
He also has some Anisota virginiensis at $3.00/pupa.

Of the butterflies listed in livestock section, only the tiger and spicebush will be available this fall as hurricane flooding caused problems with asterius and zebras.

Of the Saturniidae, only the following are still available: luna, io, polyphemus, cecropia, promethea and cynthia. Not enough regalis made it through for them to be offered; there were some problems with parasitization of angulifera; columbia are now all spoken for. Those who have requested or pre-paid for columbia should all receive them near end of October.

Thanks goes to Bernard Wenzcel who sent me some beautiful images, courtesy of Viktor Suter. Checkout Pseudodirphia eumedidoides in the Photography Section.

Thibaud Decaens has sent an absolutely gorgeous image of Rothschildia triloba female as well as larva. Also added to his collection are R. aurota, L. katinka, Othorene verana and Antheraea polyphemus.

A stunning picture of R. jacobaeae male is included with larva and male, female and larva of R. schreiteriana.

I have posted a useful tip by Reno Unger along with some of his images in the Members' Articles section.

I have just moved my small Brahmaeidae site from Bizland to http://www.huffmantaxidermy.net/oehlke/Brahmaeidae.htm

I will shortly link it from the main page (done). If any of you have images or information to share, please pass along.

Alan Marson has just sent me some beautiful images which I have posted to Brahmaea hearseyi file.

Alan has also sent me a very well written and informative article on rearing these beautiful moths. Visit http://www.huffmantaxidermy.net/oehlke/amarsonrearing.htm

Please check the Members' Wishlist periodically and help when you can.

I recently received my copy of Darge's Saturniidae II and have used it to upgrade African genera and country checklists.

It may be some time before many/any of the newly described species are depicted as they are not well known, not easily accessed, and probably not many specimens exist in collections. Any help would be appreciated.

When I return from my October trip to the states, I will begin Australian checklists.

Sphingidae Express

Received a very nice image of Manduca afflicta aflicta from Hawaii.

Patrick Coin has given me permission to use images of Ceratomia amyntor, Manduca jasminearum, Dolba hyloeus, Lapara coniferarum, Paratrea plebeja and Paonias astylus, all posted.

A very nice image of Eumorpha fasciata larva, Louisiana, has also been posted.

Two days later, non-member Scott Reely sent me an image from Terre Haute, Indiana. To my knowledge Eumorpha fasciata has not previously been reported from that state.

The following have just (September 29) come in and will be available (prices in U.S. dollars; shipping fee $7.00 required if a separate order, i.e. no cocoons) on a first come basis:

23 Eumorpha pandorus sphinx $5.00/pupa = last year's price

100 Amphion floridensis, Nessus Sphinx $4.00/pupa, beautiful day fliers

70 Sphecodina abbottii, Abbott's Sphinx $4.00/pupa, hard to find

24 Darapsa choerilus, was Darapsa pholus $3.00 easy and common

10 Deidama inscriptum, Lettered Sphinx, $3.00

30 Anisota virginiensis = Ceratocampinae $3.00, not a sphinx

Catocala Capers

Many of Tim Dyson's images are now posted on a new website at http://www.huffmantaxidermy.net/oehlke/tdysonphoto.htm

Soon I will be moving all of the Catocala and Sphingidae files to the new space provided by Steve Huffman.
