These provisional checklists of the different Saturniidae subfamilies/tribes have been largely created by going through the information provided in the four great Saturniidae works by the late Dr. Claude Lemaire of France: Attacidae (1978), Arsenurinae (1980), Ceratocampinae (1988) and Hemileucinae (2002). Dr. Lemaire's confirmations for Amapa are indicated with an asterisk (*).

I have made many of my own interpolations from those works, particularly if a species was described from surrounding Brazilian states or other nearby countries with a similar biome (Tropical Rain Forest; Amazonica). Those interpolations are followed by "?" to indicate I have no confirmed reports, but I anticipate the species has a range including the state of Para.

The Brazilian states in the North Region have not been sampled for Saturniidae nearly as well as those states in the South, Southeast, and Center-West Regions. I suspect there are many omissions in these listings, and there would also be many omissions in the Northeast Region which is also poorly sampled as of this writing, February 10, 2016.

Many new species have been described since the publications of Dr. Lemaire works and much effort has been made and continues to be made with revisions to the lists. Those species recently described in the Entomo-Satsphingia Journals: 2008-2015, by Brechlin & Meister have an (e) following their names.

Para consists of low elevation tropical rainforest and would be home only to Saturniidae species known from such a biome.

Many thanks to Geraldo Lukas for this beautiful image of Dysdaemonia boreas.

Geraldo Lukas sent me images of six (now eight) different Saturniidae from Curionopolis, about 90 km SSW of Maraba, Para, Brazil. Among the submissions for April 24 was the following Rothschildia which I believe is either Rothschildia aurota aurota or Rothschildia speculifer rubra neither of which is recorded by Lemaire or Brechlin and Meister for Para.

The other five images sent for April 24 include Adeloneivaia acuta, Automerula auletes or Automerula bahiletes, Citioica anthonilis, Dysdaemonia boreas and Syssphinx molina. It will be interesting to see if Geraldo (g) and/or other photographers from Para can further expand the lists.

The forewing apices do not seem as sharp/pointed in the Para image above, compared to the A. auletes images from French Guiana. The forewing ocellus also seems quite large above. Combined with the possible presence of the northeastern R. speculifer rubra, the two characters mentioned above suggest that the image Para Automerula image may well be the very similar Automerula bahiletes described in 2011 from Bahia, Brazil.

Gerldo is reporting from Curionopolis with an elevation of about 185m. It is about 85 km SSW or Maraba, Para, and would be host to low elevation species.

Automeris ???? male, Para, Brazil, courtesy of Geraldo Lukas.

I am stumped by the Automeris male, directly above. It seems closest to Automeris wayampi, but lacks the produced forewing apex. Perhaps it is just the angulation of the wings in the resting position that is masking the production; perhaps it is another species, possibly even undescribed.
