Prohylesia Comparison Chart

Prohylesia friburgensis male, Brazil,
courtesy of Daniel Herbin.

Prohylesia friburgensis is the specimen type for this genus, with seven species recognized as of 2012.

Draudt named the genus in 1929, and undoubtedly recognized a great similarity between these moths and some Hylesia species.

It is hoped that this chart will help me and others with id work. The descriptions on this page are for males. There are additional comments about the females on the individual species files.

Although I have images on my home computer for both genders of most species, I do not have permission to post all of those images. Many of the more recently described species are relatively common, and I hope to have additional images to add to the display over the years.
