Please note: Locations of towns and cities are approximate.

Bordered by the Pacific Ocean to the northwest, sister Ecuadorian provinces of Guayas to the north, Azuay to the northeast, Loja to the southeast and south, and the country of Peru to the southwest, El Oro is divided into fourteen cantons and has a varied terrain with the western slopes of the Andes dominating the eastern cantons.

In general, the province has a semi-humid tropical climate with average temperature of 23 degrees Centigrade.
