Located in centraleastern Ecuador, bordered to the west by Tungurahua Province, to the north by Napo and Orellana Provinces, to the east by Peru, and to the south by Morona Santiago Province, Pastaza Province is host to many Saturniidae species.
Pastaza, the largest province in Ecuador, has a landscape that is mostly mountainous, particularly to the west, with rivers and plains to the east.
The highest elevation is 1,820 meters (5,970 ft), so some of the higher elevation species are probably absent. The climate is warm, wet, and humid with a median temperature pf 18 to 24 degrees Celsius.
Rich in biodiversity, Pastaza probably has many Saturniidae species yet to be reported.
Those species followed by CL are confirmed by Claude Lemaire; those followed by LTR are confirmed by Luigi Racheli. Many species are confirmed by both of those gentlemen; I have only recorded the intitials for the one whose documentation I was perusing at the time of creating this list. Those species followed by HK are additions by Horst Kach.
Species followed by my initials (WO), are not confirmed, but I anticipate their presence (or feel they might be present) in Pastaza Province.
There are probably more species present than are recorded in the table below.
