DISTRIBUTION:

Adelowalkeria tristygma (wingspan: males: 56-76mm; females: 90-96mm // forewing length: males: 30.8-32.8mm; females: larger) flies in
southeast Brazil: Espirito Santo, Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, Parana, Santa Catarina, Rio Grande do Sul; and
southeastern Paraguay: Caaguazu, Alto Parana, Guaira, Caazapa, and probably Itapua (confirmed by Paul Smith). Claude Lamaire indicates Cerro Caranday, Paraguay, and
Argentina: Misiones: Salto Encantado (EB) and Dos de Mayo and Pozo Azul (LR, 2008), all localities in the sierra of Misiones.

It also possibly flies in Bolivia and Peru (doubtful).

The male forewing postmedian line is always straight with a slight inturn at the inner margin, and there are always three discal spots.

FLIGHT TIMES AND PREFERRED FOOD PLANTS:

There are probably two broods of Adelowalkeria tristygma annually in February-March and possibly again in July-August.

In Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, adult moths are reported on the wing in January-March and July-November Larval hosts are unknown.

ECLOSION, SCENTING AND MATING:

Females probably call from 10:30 pm until 12:30 am and then make their ovipositing flights from 10:30 pm until 2:00 am over the next several nights.

Larvae descend tree trunks at maturity to dig subterranean chambers in which to pupate.

It appears the larvae feed on Acacia.

Larval Food Plants

It is hoped that this alphabetical listing followed by the common name of the foodplant will prove useful. The list is not exhaustive. Experimenting with closely related foodplants is worthwhile.
