DISTRIBUTION:

Cerodirphia bahiana (wingspan: males: 58-60mm; females: 74-83mm // forewing length: males: 29-31mm; females: 38-42mm) flies in
Brazil: Bahia. Leamire indicates he is not sure if Bahia refers to the Brasilian state of Bahia or if it referes to Bahia, Salvador.

Males have orangey-reddish-brown forewings with a small orange cell spot, possibly two spots, possibly connected by a thin striga in some specimens. The diffuse whitish pm line is almost straight, slightly oblique, with just a slight hint of an s-shape on the right forewing. The am line is even less distinct and is slightly convex. The hindwing is a uniform pale red.

The female is similarly marked and coloured, but her fw pm line is more convex, subparallel to the outer margin.

FLIGHT TIMES AND PREFERRED FOOD PLANTS:

This moth probably broods continuously.

ECLOSION, SCENTING AND MATING:

Males use highly developed antennae to locate females at night by tracking their airbourne pheromone plumes.

EGGS, LARVAE, COCOONS AND PUPAE:

Larve feed gregariously and have urticating spines.

It is hoped that this alphabetical listing followed by the common name of the foodplant will prove useful. The list is not exhaustive. Experimenting with closely related foodplants is worthwhile.
