DISTRIBUTION:

Copaxa sinjaevi (wingspan: males: mm; females: 92mm // forewing length: males: ; females: 54mm) flies in
Bolivia: La Paz: Nor Yungas at elevations of 2270m.

This female of this species is quite similar to the female of Copaxa lunula which is smaller and is known from Cochabamba, Bolivia. Possibly sinjaevi replaces lunula in that area. The Entomo-Satsphingia journal image shows a female with very dark outlines around the hyaline cell markings, while those outlines in anikae and bella are distinctly yellow. Overall ground colour is darker than in either of the other three species (anikae, bella, lunula) mentioned.

FLIGHT TIMES AND PREFERRED FOOD PLANTS:

Copaxa sinjaevi larvae probably feed upon avocado (Persea americana).

Most of the Copaxa brood continuously so I suspect sinjaevi would be on the wing every month of the year. Higher elevation habitat and conditions, however, may restrict the number of annual broods. Thus far only a single female is known, taken in October, 2010, by Viktor Sinjaev. The species name is honourific for Viktor.

ECLOSION, SCENTING AND MATING:

Male Copaxa sinjaevi moths use highly developed antennae to locate females by tracking the airbourne pheromone plume. The female releases this scent into the air via an organ extended from the tip of the abdomen.

EGGS, LARVAE, COCOONS AND PUPAE:

It is hoped that this alphabetical listing followed by the common name of the anticipated foodplant will prove useful. The list is not exhaustive. Experimenting with closely related foodplants is worthwhile.
