This moth is almost identical in size to flora and orientalis, but tends to have a reduced forewing median field due to greater distance of pm line from outer margin. This species also tends to have a redder ground colour.
Males use highly developed antennae to locate females by tracking their airbourne pheromone plumes.

The species name, amamartiniana is indicative of a range in both Amazonas and San Martin, Peru.
