DISTRIBUTION:

Hyperchiria incisa gadouae (wingspan: males: 48-56mm; females: 66-73mm / forewing length: males: 25-27mm; females: 33-38mm) flies in low-medium altitude andean forests (100 - 1800 m) in
Venezuela: Bolivar, Zulia, probably Amazonas;
Peru: Cusco, Madre de Dios, Puno;
Bolivia: La Paz;
Brazil: Paraibo, Alagoas, Bahia, probably Amazonas; and possibly in
?? Guyana;
?? Surinam; and
?? French Guiana.

FLIGHT TIMES AND PREFERRED FOOD PLANTS:

Venezuela: June, August, October
Peru: July, September-October
Brazil: February-March, July

There are probably at least three generations annually with peak flights in February-March, June-July and September-October.

Hyperchiria incisa gadouae larvae probably eat Berberis lauina, Cassia corymbosa, Celtis spinosa, Fagus, Ficus benjamina, Laburnum, Platanus orientalis, Quercus, Quercus ilex and Serjania.

ECLOSION, SCENTING AND MATING:

Males use well-developed antennae to seek out females which scent at night. Females are active from 10:00 pm until midnight; males are active from 10:30 pm until 1:00 am.

EGGS, LARVAE, COCOONS AND PUPAE:

Typical of species in the Genus Hyperchiria and the Subfamily Hemileucinae, the larvae are armed with urticating spines.
