DISTRIBUTION:

Meroleucoides fassli (wingspan: males: 54 mm; females: larger // fwl: m: 27-30mm; f: larger) flies in
Colombia: Tolima, at elevations around 2700m.

FLIGHT TIMES AND PREFERRED FOOD PLANTS:

There is at least one brood in April, but this species possibly broods continuously with at least two to three broods annually.

ECLOSION, SCENTING AND MATING:

Females extend a scent gland from the tip of the abdomen, and the night-flying males pick up and track the airbourne pheromone plume with their well-developed antennae.

EGGS, LARVAE, COCOONS AND PUPAE:

Eggs are deposited in clusters on hostplant foliage.

Meroleucoides fassli larvae are highly gregarious and have the urticating spines typical of larvae from the Subfamily Hemileucinae.
