DISTRIBUTION:

Pseudautomeris horsti (wingspan: males: 79mm; females: 89mm // forewing length: males: 36-40mm; females: 35-37??mm; should be larger??) flies in
eastern Ecuador: Napo; Succumbios; at elevations of 1200-1670m.

This species is quite similar to P. yourii but tends to be smaller than yourii, with which it is partially sympatric. I believe P. yourii is also lighter in colour with a pinkish hindwing, as opposed to the darker, redder colouration of horsti.

FLIGHT TIMES AND PREFERRED FOOD PLANTS:

This moth flies in February-March, May, July-August, suggesting at least three broods annually. There may be additional flight months. Larval hosts are unknown.

ECLOSION, SCENTING AND MATING:

Females extend a scent gland from the tip of the abdomen to call in the night-flying males. Most male activity probably occurs in the two hours before midnight.

EGGS, LARVAE, COCOONS AND PUPAE:

Pseudautomeris horsti larvae are probably similar to Automeris and other Pseudautomeris larvae, being gregarious and having urticating spines.
