DISTRIBUTION:

Callionima grisescens grisescens (Wing span: approximately 56mm (NV)), flies in
Argentina: Catamarca, Buenos Aires, Cordoba, Chaco, Corrientes, Entre Rios, Formosa, Jujuy, La Rioga, Misiones, Salta, San Luis, Santa Fe, Santiago del Estero, Tucuman;
Paraguay: Paraguari; Alto Paraguay; Boqueron; Presidente Hayes; Concepcion; Central; Cordillera; Guaira; Alto Parana; and possibly Amambay, San Pedro, Canindeyu, Caaguazu, Itapua;
Bolivia: Santa Cruz, La Paz and probably Cochabamba, Chuquisaca, Potosi, Tarija;
Brazil: Mato Grosso do Sul; southern Maranhao; Rio de Janeiro and probably Parana and Sao Paulo. Subspecies C. g. elegans flies in northeastern Brazil.

FLIGHT TIMES:

Callionima grisescens grisescens adults probably fly as multiple broods. They have been taken in Bolivia from May - December. Nigel Venters has taken them in Cordoba Province, Argentina in November-December, and in Jujuy Province in November. Ezequiel bustos confirms them from Santiago del Estero Province, Argentina, in November. They probably fly in other months as well. Carlos Marzano reports them in San Luis, Argentina, in February.

ECLOSION:

Adults eclose from pupae formed in flimsy cocoons among leaf litter.

SCENTING AND MATING:

Females call in the males with a pheromone released from a gland at the tip of the abdomen. Both males and females nectar at flowers.
