DISTRIBUTION:

Manduca scutata scutata (wingspan: approximately 95mm) flies in
Venezuela (specimen type locality); and in
Mexico and probably throughout Central America;
Colombia: La Guarjira (BF);
Ecuador: Morona-Santiago: Macas;
Peru: Puno: Carabaya;
Bolivia: La Paz: Murillo, Río Zongo, 750m; and Cochabamba: Chapare, Yunga del Espíritu Santo; and into
from northwestern to west central Argentina: Jujuy; Salta.

FLIGHT TIMES:

Manduca scutata scutata adults fly in November and possibly in other months.

ECLOSION:

Pupae probably wiggle to surface from subterranean chambers just prior to eclosion.

SCENTING AND MATING:

Females call in the males with a pheromone released from a gland at the tip of the abdomen. Adults probably take nectar from flowers.
