DISTRIBUTION:
Xylophanes mariae
(forewing length: males: 50mm; females: mm) flies in
Peru: Cusco; Apurimac; at elevations near 2395m.
This species, with a forewing length of 50mm, is similar to but larger than X. rhodochlora and X. nabuchodonosor (43mm).

FLIGHT TIMES:
Xylophanes mariae adults possibly brood continuously. Thus far specimens have been taken in February and November, and there may be
some limitation on number of broods due to cooler weather at higher elevation.
ECLOSION:
Pupae probably wiggle to surface from subterranean chambers just prior to eclosion.
SCENTING AND MATING:Females call in the males with a pheromone released from a gland at the tip of the
abdomen. Males come in to lights very readily, but females are seldom taken in that way.
EGGS, LARVAE, PUPAE:
Larvae probably feed on plants of the Rubiaceae and Malvaceae families.
Moths probably emerge approximately one-two months after larvae pupate.
