Argentina: Misiones Province Checklists

Copaxa decrescens male, Yacutinga, Misiones, Argentina,
September 2007, courtesy of Ezequiel Bustos.

This checklist has been assembled by going through the individual species notes in Dr. Claude Lemaire's great works: Attacidae, 1978, Arsenurinae, 1980, Ceratocaminae and Hemileucinae, 2002. Those species recognized by Dr. Lemaire from Misiones are folowed by his initials (CL).

Reinhard Foerster (RF) has sent some additional species based on encounters around his breeding farm in Misiones Province.

Oz Rittner (OR) who frequently travels to Argentina has sent some images resulting in the addition of Adeloneivaia catharina and Adeloneivaia subangulata to the lists.

Pablo Wagner (PW) who lives, collects and sells specimens in/from Argentina has confirmed Neorcarnegia basirei from Misiones.

Please note: Those species followed by my intitials (WO?) are speculative. I have no confirmed reports of them in Misiones Province. However, I feel they may be present based on reports in southern Paraguay, southeastern Brazil and/or neighbouring provinces in Argentina.

Many thanks to Ezequiel Bustos who has begun to send me electronic images of Saturniidae species he encounters on his Sphingidae excursions. He has already confirmed Oz Rittner's sighting of Adeloneivaia subangulata with an electronic image of his own, and he has extended the known range of Dysdaemonia fosteri to eastern Argentina: Misiones. Ezequiel's report of Hylesia scortina in Misiones is a first time report for that species anywhere in Argentina.

Please help me inprove the accuracy of this page by sending electronic images with data to William Oehlke.
