Anolis carolinensis vs Antheraea polyphemus,
Battle of the Scales, Andrew Spicer

Just for fun, here is a picture of a green anole (Anolis carolinensis) who bit off way too much more than he could chew. Copyright, Andrew Spicer, 2004.

"Right after taking this picture, the polyphemus moth was ceremoniously ejected and flew away apparently unharmed!"

Skunks never let go!

Perhaps this is how lizards learned to fly. NOT!

For those of you rooting for the moth, about a minute later the male arrived with two of his brothers. They fly off with the anole "in toe" and dropped him in the Gulf!

Green Anoles are also known as "chameleons" based on their ability to change color. The color varies from brown to mottled green and brown to pure green, depending on the anole's body temperature, activity or behavior.
