My questions on this are as follows:

1) How long do unmated females "hang in there"until they're mated?

They will usually start dumping eggs the third or fourth night and usually stop calling once that process begins. Lifespan is 7-10 days as an adult.

2) Will females dump unfertilized eggs at some point or will they remain inert and just die?

Yes, as above. The urge to oviposit is strong so they begin regular ovipositing flights dumping infertile eggs.

Also, can a male moth mate with several females during it's lifespan or only with one?

One male can mate several times, but he does not constantly replenish sperm so he can run out and eggs from subsequent pairings may or may not be fertile.

You can try the following to prolong life of either sex while waiting for the other sex to emerge:
Put inflated moth in ziploc tub in fridge crisper where it will not expend any energy. When other sex emerges, bring "chilled" moth out of storage and give it several hours to warm up. You can prolong life this way for at least several days. In nature same thing happens in spring when nights are sometimes too cool for flight. Try this with one of your females. Don't freeze as that will kill, just chill. Keeping at 40-44 F is best.
