Loja is bordered by Peru to the south and southwest, and shares its other borders with sister Ecuadorian provinces: El Oro Province on the northwest, Azuay on the north, and Zamora-Chinchipe on the east.

Located in a high Andean valley at an elevation of 7,300 feet (2,225 meters), Loja, the capital city, does not host low altitude Saturniidae species. Most of the province is over 1000m.

Based between the humid Amazon basin and coastal sechura desert in Peru, the environment comprises paramo, cloud forest and jungle landscapes. 86% of the province is covered by hills or mountains.

Those species followed by CL are confirmed by Claude Lemaire; those followed by LR are confirmed by Luigi Racheli. N.B.: Those species followed by my initials, WO?, are unconfirmed, but I feel they might be present.

There are probably more species present than are recorded in the table below.

Many thanks to Pia Oberg for confirmation of Caio harrietae in the Urruca National Park.
