The genus Copiopteryx belongs in the Tribe Arsenurini in the Subfamily Arsenurinae, Family Saturniidae. These moths all fly in Central and South America.
Larvae are adorned with elongated thoracic and anal scoli in the first five instars. The scoli are greatly reduced or non-existent in the fnal sixth instar.
Kirby Wolfe reports, "All of the Copiopteryx feed on Sapotaceae, the sapote family, and I reared mine (jehovah and semiramis) on Chico Sapote (Manilkara chicle)."
