Lemaireodirphia hoegei male, copyright Kirby Wolfe
The genus Lemaireodirphia belongs to the Hemileucini Tribe of Subfamily Hemileucinae in the Saturniidae Family. Larvae have urticating spines.
This type species is Lemaireodirphia hoegei which was previously included in the Paradirphia genus and was originally described in the Dirphia genus, but DNA barcoding analysis indicates a separate genus is warranted for hoegei and many recently (2012) described species from Mexico.
Also moving to the Lemaireodirphia genus from the Paradirphia genus is Lemaireodirphia lasiocampina.
