MALTAGOREA OF THE WORLD

MALTAGOREA BOUYER, 1993

Maltagorea fusicolor male courtesy or Reinhart Rohrig.

Maltagorea belong to the Urotini tribe of the subfamily Saturniinae, Family Saturniidae. Moths in this tribe are found in Africa. Some reclassification has resulted in debate over Maltagorea and Syntherata and Tagoropsis designations.

This list is from Thierry Bouyer's Catalogue of African Saturniidae.

The genus name Maltagorea is a contraction of the Malagassy branch of the Tagoropsis / Pseudantherea group.

Mal from Malagassy Republic (Madagascar);
tago from Tagoropsis:
rea from Pseudantherea

The Tapia tree is known as a hostplant for Maltagorea spp.
