TAGOROPSIS OF THE WORLD

Tagoropsis flavinata

TAGOROPSIS FELDER, 1874

The genus Tagoropsis belongs to the tribe Urotini in the subfamily Saturniinae in the Family Saturnidae; these moths fly in Africa.

General ground colour of the species in this genus is yellow or orange. Moths have a relatively small hyaline forewing eyespot, encircled with a brown, and the hindwing is devoid of such marking or has only a tiny brown dot for an eyespot.

Gregarious larvae have spiny tubercles and irritating body hairs.

For the southern most species, pupation is amongst surface leaf litter.

This genus has recently been split into two subgenera, * Tagoropsis and ** Tagoropsiella. Several new species have been added to Tagoropsiella which now has a page of its own.
