DISTRIBUTION:

Saturnia (Rinaca) grotei flies in
Nepal: Janakpur Dolakha;
northern India: Sikkim (TK), near the border with Tibet; and probably (WO???) in Tibet/China: Xinjiang and possibly (WO???) in western Bhutan.

Saturnia (Rinaca) grotei is a montane species found in more or less inaccessable areas, or areas that are less often visited or reported.

FLIGHT TIMES AND PREFERRED FOOD PLANTS:

Adults are on the wing in in July in Nepal Himalaya, Janakpur Dolakha, and possibly at other times.

ECLOSION, SCENTING AND MATING:

Females extend a scent gland from the tip of their abdomens to "call" the males. Males use their antennae to hone in on the airbourne pheromone.
