DISTRIBUTON:

Antheraea angustomarginata (forewing length: males: 65-67mm; females:) flies in Cambodia: Kambodscha: Kiriom National Park, at elevation of 780m.

The forewing ocellus is 7.5mm x 7.5 mm.

Antheraea frithi, which also flies in Cambodia, tends to be a larger species (forewing length: males: 70-76mm) with a slightly broader marginal area and a larger, clearer yellow patch near the forewing apex.

Antheraea frithi male, Laos, courtesy of Ron Brechlin,
note yellower forewing apex and slightly broader marginal area, especially near the anal angle.

FLIGHT TIMES AND PREFERRED FOOD PLANTS:

Antheraea angustomarginata flies in January and probably again later in the year.

ECLOSION, SCENTING AND MATING:

Males use highly developed antennae to detect female scent which is distributed into the wind. Males fly into the wind in a zigzag pattern to detect the pheromone and subsequently locate the female.

EGGS, LARVAE, COCOONS AND PUPAE:

The species name, angustomarginata, is chosen for the relatively narrow forewing outer margin.

Larval Food Plants

It is hoped that this alphabetical listing followed by the common name of the foodplant will prove useful. The list is not exhaustive. Experimenting with closely related foodplants is worthwhile.
