Thus far (2015) only two specimens have been examined. The moth is very similar to Aglia homora from Sichuan, China. The forewing apex seems slightly more produced in vanschaycki as compared to same area in homora. DNA barcoding may be necessary to distinguish between the two of them. Brechlin & Meister, 2015, mention A. ingens as a junior subjective synonym of Aglia homora.
The preferred foodplant is probably birch, but sinyaevi probably also accepts beech, lime, oak, sycamore and walnut.
The pronunciation of scientific names is troublesome for many. The "suggestion" at the top of the page is
merely a suggestion. It is based on commonly accepted English pronunciation of Greek names and/or some fairly well accepted
"rules" for latinized scientific names.
Often names were chosen without any direct link to the characters of the genus or species.
The suggested pronunciations, on this page and on other pages, are primarily put forward to assist those who hear with internal ears as they read.
There are many collectors from different countries whose intonations and accents would be different.
The species name, vanschaycki, is honourific for Eric Van Schayck.
It is hoped that this alphabetical listing followed by the common name of the anticipated foodplant will prove useful. The list is not exhaustive. Experimenting with closely related foodplants is worthwhile.
