DISTRIBUTION:

Antheraea godmani (wingspan: males: 163-180mm; females: 152-160mm) flies from Mexico to Costa Rica: Heredia, Puntarenas, San Hose (IB), and south through Panama to at least northern Colombia. In Costa Rica it has been taken at elevations from 1200m to 2500m and up. Mike Buczkowski sends this image from 3000m, taken at Tejos lodge, Costa Rica, June 22, 2011.

In Mexico it is reported from the states of
Puebla: Xicotepec: Villa Juarez;
Veracruz: Las Minas: Las Minas (1480m); Naolinco: Naolinco (1540m);
Oaxaca: Municipio Santiago Comaltepec: La Esperanza, Sierra de Juarez (1600m);
Tabasco
and Chiapas: San Cristóbal de las Casas: San Cristobal de las Casas (1940m); Comitán de Domínguez: Comitan (1620); Oxchuc: Oxchuc (2000m).

Robert Lehman reports it in
Honduras: Atlantida, Cortes, Olancho and Francisco Morazan, and I suspect it also flies in Yoro (confirmed in Yoro by Ronald D. Cave. Angela R. Amarillo (1997) reports it from
Colombia: Antioquia, so I suspect it is also found in
Panama: (Chiriqui, now confirmed by Albert Thurman). Jean Michel Maes reports it in
Nicaragua: Jinotega. Claude Lemaire confirms it in
Guatemala: Alta Verapaz. Jose Monzon confirms it in Suchitepequez, Guatemala.

FLIGHT TIMES AND PREFERRED FOOD PLANTS:

Larvae feed on various oak species. There appear to be at least two broods; the moth probably broods continuously. Moths have been taken in January (CP), Feb., April, May, June-July-August, October, November, December.

ECLOSION, SCENTING AND MATING:

Females attract the night flying males with an airbourne pheromone.
Both sexes come to light sources.

EGGS, LARVAE, COCOONS AND PUPAE:

Mature larvae greatly resemble those of Antheraea polyphemus.
